My
master teacher and "mother in dance"....Zarifa Sa'id
I
have learned so much from Zarifa. She is my inspiration and
master instructor. In October of 2003,
I was greatly honored to take on
Zarifa's last name of Sa'id. Together
we have started a journey of teaching and performing under the name
"Two Generations Belly Dance."
Two Generations Belly Dance
"A couple of years ago I began working with a young woman who wanted to
pursue a career in Belly Dance. She studied for awhile with a friend of
mine and then began taking private classes with me. As we worked, I
became aware that we have a spiritual connection in dance. Our
connection grew until I thought of her as my daughter in dance. She has
renewed and re-inspired my love for this dance form. Her questions and
desire to learn has caused me to grow as a teacher. She took my dance
last name as hers to represent this connection.
I remain a traditionalist. I love the folkloric and ethnic dance arts
as I consider them the soul of danse orientale. Amira is a modern
woman, very much in tune with new trends in the dance. Yet, she, too,
loves the traditional and together we find new expressions through
blending the two perspectives. Hence, Two Generations Belly Dance * A
Blending of the Old with the New. This is our vision and our
direction."
