Amira
began dancing at the age
of 5 with her first number being a cute tap dance called "Yellow
Polka Dot Bikini". Throughout her childhood, she continued
dancing
tap, ballet, and jazz and as a teenager took up Irish step dancing in
which she won several trophies. She stopped dancing while
pursuing
her B.S. in physics and a little over a year after graduation,
discovered Middle Eastern dance. After many years of successful
performances at restaruants and dinner shows in Florida, including
Disney's Indiana
Jones Cairo Dinner Show, Arabian Nights Dinner Show Attraction, Cedars
Lebanese resturant and Ali Baba
Persian restaurant, Amira is now focusing on Bollywood, the film
dances from India. She also is well known internationally and
nationally for her "bellydancing Slave Leia Act" as seen at Star Wars
Celebration 4 and 5 and featured in the movie "Jedi Junkies". Amira has
a high functioning form of autism known as Asperger's syndrome and this
has presented many challenges for her to overcome in the performance
and entertainment world. Her name, Amira Sa'id, means "happy princess"
in Arabic and indeed Amira is
happiest when
expresssing herself through dance and hopes all her audiences will
share her joy, dance spirit, and love of life! For more info see Amira's interview in Physics World Magazine. |
